May 2008

A letter from Charles Mullenger (Saddlebrook Prep Class of 2006) who is currently attending the United States Military Academy at West Point:

Saddlebrook Staff and Faculty,

I just wanted to email the five of you to see how everything is going down in Florida and to give you a quick update.  I am coming up on the end of my sophomore year which means I will be making my full commitment to the U.S. Army for 8 years upon graduation (5 years active duty, 3 years reserves).  It has been another great year and I am more than happy with my success at the academy.  This summer I will be spending the whole month of June in South Korea training with the U.S. Troops stationed over there.  I will be attached to a transportation unit so I will be doing convoy operations and going up in helicopters, doing some great training!  Right after that, I will be heading to Chile to spend about 6 months at the Chilean Military Academy and to train with the Chilean Army.  I was chosen to do this semester abroad due to my development as a spanish speaker and my commitment to learning new languages.  It was a tough process to get the spot to go abroad so I am really excited for the opportunity to live in a new culture and to see how a foreign miilitary works compared to the United States.

There are very few days when I don't think about Saddlebrook and the amazing opportunity I had there to make great friends from all over the world.  Without it, I don't think I would be the person I am today and I know that my awareness of foreign cultures will ultimately make me a better officer in the army.

I hope that all is well down in sunny Florida, and I am still looking forward to a time where I can come down during the school year so that I can stop by to see you all.  I look forward to hearing updates from you all, and please send my regards around the school!  Take care and talk soon.

Very Respectfully,
Coporal K. Charles Mullenger
